Zelman Cowen Building

The Zelman Cowen Building is a six-level brutalist building located on the St Lucia campus of The University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. It was designed by architects Nutter, Charlton + Partners and completed in 1976. The building was originally known as the Architecture, Planning, and Music Building, but was renamed in 1993 in honor of Sir Zelman Cowen.

In 2016, m3architecture added a new entry to the building that features a concrete ramp and a series of “teachable moments” that reference Australian Standards for ramps and stairs. The new entry is also designed to be more inviting and welcoming, with a more open and transparent facade
